American Air Strike

American’s and war do not go hand in hand. They have a reputation of killing their own forces, allies and innocent civilians and it has happened again. Today they ordered an air strike on a village in Afghanistan but hit the wrong village killing 120 innocent citizens.
In 2008, 552 innocent citizens were killed in air strikes; including people attend weddings which American believed were gathering of militants. What angers me the most about this, it is never their fault. They always blame it on the Taliban for using civilians as ‘human shields’ and even worst, did you know there is an international law that forbids armies from bombing villages? The Americans have yet again got themselves into a war that isn’t going to end victorious for either side purely because of the amount of lives lost. This not the first time for this to happen and I’m sure it won’t be the last.

Gordon Brown

The one thing wrong in our country is Gordon Brown. The man’s an idiot. He’s been criticised by Charles Clarke for expecting people to obey him and for bullying MP’s to vote for his new expenses scheme.

Furthermore, he stole Boris Johnson’s initiative on electric cars, introduced it as his own three months after Boris had launched it. To further this Gordon decided to take all the credit. As Ian Hislop said on Have I got News for You recently, “that’s what you get with Gordon, a straight forward lie” -as well as a bunch of crazy economic ideologies.

It also sounds like the man is losing he’s marbles -if he ever had them to begin with. Employees of Gordon Brown have revealed that he has thrown pens, staplers and other objects at aides and have even witnessed him thrust a laser printer off a desk. Staff have even developed a method called a ‘news sandwich’ which is basically telling Brown good news, followed by bad news to quickly informing him of something good –to stop him having a hissy fit.

After nosing around on the net for other people’s views on him I found an article (2nd link) that states he has disabled youtube users from commenting on his videos. This all occurred because of the video of Brown announcing -with that creepy manic smile that suddenly appeared on his face- his new idea for a MP’s expenses system. I also found another juicy bit of information within the article that made me laugh “The eighth most popular petition of the moment, [on the Governments e-petitions website] with 17,665 signatures and counting, asks Mr Brown to do just one thing: resign”.

I also read today in the Guardian that the Labour Chairman of the commons public administration committee said “It is rather a large understatement to say that we are in a bit of a mess” and they also published a reader’s comment which sums Brown up. “Brown seems to have performed the brilliant hat trick of failing to grasp where his parliamentary party is coming from, failing to recognise what we provoke ridicule in the press and failing to acknowledge the public mood.”

Do we really want this idiot to be in charge of this country? I think it is time for a vote of no confidence.

Comment on Jordan’s Blog: Vandalism

I have mixed views on vandalism, destroying someone’s property is just unacceptable. I’ve experienced my car being broken into twice, the second time they only had the option of stealing my three soft toy hippos -which they took. I hadn’t even got round to replacing my radio when the second attempt happened and because of it happening twice within a couple of months I decided I’m going to live without one.

Graffiti, however changes my view. Not because of that awful scrawl people spray everywhere but because some create amazing paintings. One name comes to my mind in particular; Banksy. His graffiti conveys his political views in a very clever way.

“The people who truly deface our neighbourhoods are the companies that scrawl their giant slogans across buildings and buses trying to make us feel inadequate unless we buy their stuff. They expect to able to shout their message in your face from every available surface but you’re never allowed to answer back. Well, they started this fight and the wall is the weapon of choice to hit back” Banksy 2005 Wall and Piece

Comment on Kate’s Column’s Shhhh

I agree with Kate on people talking through films. I do not understand why people pay good money to see a film just so they can have a conversation. I find not only is it groups of youngsters but the elderly too. On many occasions I’ve wanted to grab them by the collar and kick them out -youngsters and the elderly.

Thankfully, today I managed to see a film without any annoying kids (probably because they were in school) chatting and it definitely wasn’t a movie grannies would want to see.

Comment on Sue’s blog; Brothers are bad for your Health

I’m not so sure of this. Yes my brother doesn’t quite communicate his problems with our family. If he does, it is sometime in the early hours to me or mum and if not, we usually know what is wrong anyway. If I’m the one with the problem I will also clam up. Two things usually happen in this situation, either mum waits it out because she knows eventually I will discuss what is going on inside my head or my brother will confront me.
I think my brother and I generally balance each other out and I think that is down to the fact we have always been a close and in a close knit family.

Comment on Laura Cole's File Sharing

File sharing has always been a touchy subjected, probably because so many people do it. I would if I hadn’t lost interest in finding decent music, for now I’ll stick with what I’ve got. I agree with what Laura Cole is saying in her being bad blog. Artists swoop about in their designer clothes -which they only wear once- followed by there huge body guards, PA, paparazzi and god knows who else. If these artists were more down to earth and present themselves as regular people maybe we’d respect them more. I know they’ve probably worked hard to be were they are and are enjoying their fame while they have it but do they have to flaunt it so much?

The Hospital

I really think our society has gone down the drain. After watching The Hospital I wondered if it was a good idea just to shut the door on people ‘self abusing’.
It does make me angry at the attitudes of the people who have been treated are indifferent. Makes me wonder that if we paid for our health service that maybe attitudes would change.

Consequences also seem to be missing in the minds of society. The programme pointed out that, obesity and alcohol will cost us all in the long run, whether through paying taxes to help those suffering from drink/obesity related illnesses or the sufferer themselves.

Are people my age really like this though? Let’s go out and get completely bladdered and laugh the next day about how you were rushed to A&E to get your stomach pumped, or stitch up some wound you got in a fight. Laugh at how you drove at 100mph after having seven pints, crashed and ended up putting your friend in hospital.

I feel like a granny saying all that but I do think someone needs to be concerned that people seem to have the ‘live today, die tomorrow’ attitude.

Poly Pill

Drug companies are disinterested in a pill that could half the number of heart attacks and strokes because it is not profitable. In 2003 a medical journal stated that this pill was “a step of genius” and “possibly the most important paper the journal has published in 50 years”.

Yet even now, after research showing that the pill can reduce blood pressure and cholesterol without side effects in 12 weeks, it looks like a long time till it will be perscriped by GP’s.

I find it concerning that drug companies can be so uninterested in drugs that benefit so many people because either it is too expensive to produce or it does not make a big enough profit. I wonder how many people would still be alive today if drug finances weren’t such a problem.

Government Expenses

My dislike with our current Government grows everyday. Gordon’s new proposal for the expenses system is worse than the existing one. Currently all MP’s have to produce a receipt to get their expenses paid for, if this new expenses system is introduced MP’s would just need to turn up to work and receive their daily allowance. The problem with this is no one will know what they have spent their money on.

It is bad enough that these MP’s have got away with spending their allowance on but at least we now know about it. If this new system comes in we will never know who is playing the system, which equals to how do we know who can be trusted? (Not that we trust them anyway). They’d easily get away with not raising the taxes if they reduced their expenses. I also don’t think people who have grown up with luxurious life styles should make major decisions for our country, how do they know what we need if they’ve never lived our lives? This is proven when they do not understand our outrage at what their expenses include and reply to the public with “we haven’t broken any rules”. I think the Government has a long way to go before they gain any faith from the public.

Cloning

Honestly, I’d say cloning worries and scares me. Is it truly a good idea to subject people who have failed through fertility treatment, to use another process that, by the sounds of it, is very dangerous? But that isn’t the only thing that worries me. I don’t like the fact that this Dr Zavos has taken advantage of these vulnerable, desperate and unprotected couples and put them through such an emotional process –in secret.

Dr Zavos has been experimenting with human cloning at a secret laboratory due to the universal ban on human cloning. This ban was agreed since most animal cloned embryos have resulted in abnormities from severe development problems to congenital defects.
Dr Zavos claims that cloning technology has improved creating lesser risk however majority of scientist have criticize, commenting that technology is inefficient.

For me this is the big red flag, this Doctor has gone a step further. He took blood cells from a dead ten year old that died tragically in a car accident and fused them with cow eggs to create cloned human-animal hybrid embryos. Thankfully this man has a some sort of concious because he did not transfer the embryos into the mothers womb even though she would sanction this.

I also wonder when successful cloning has been accomplished and used as an acceptable fertility treatment, how much it will cost the NHS and us to provide this treatment.
And finally, is all this really humane?

Manners

After reading "TV Dinners ruin Children's Manners" (link below) i couldn't understand how they thought that one part that is missing from the childs upbring could result in them not having any manners.

I have always been brought up to eat dinner at the table with my family. My mum is a strong believer that it is an important part of growing up. When sitting at the table you discuss your day, your thoughts, problems etc. Many times we’ve found ourselves still sitting at the table having a discussion, hours after we’ve finished eating. I enjoy it and miss it now I’m at university.

However, I don’t think if you took it away it would affect my manners. At times my manners can be terrible and I do not like to use the word please as I feel I am begging, but I do use it when it is necessary. I feel you learn manners from society not just the family nor the dinner table. I know why mine can be poor and it’s not down to my parents.

Vague Legislation

Yet the again the Government can’t seem to get anything right. Comic book artist and writers are up in arms, including our famous Alan Moore. His daughter, also a graphic artist, has even set up a Comic Book Alliance. This is all because of a new Bill that Parliament are discussing this week. This Bill is comprised to try and close down on ‘hardcore paedophilic cartoon porn’ which comes mainly from Japan. However this will affect many comic book fans, for example Watchman, as it contains sexual activity taken place with a child present. So I’m sorry to say that if this piece of Legislation comes into affect this means Watchman is banned, so get ready to hide your copies under the floorboards.

Of course I’m not saying it is wrong to bring in this piece of Legislation, it is however wrong if the definitions are so vague that it is unclear what is and what isn’t acceptable and results in affecting innocent comic artist, writers and fans.

Hospital Technology

Technology has always had its pro’s and con’s especially when it involves hospital equipment that keeps people alive. Personal I’m not a fan. If the technology wasn’t there to perform unnatural acts we wouldn’t have another boundary that has to be pushed and another fight between doctor and family.

People who wake up after being in a coma or vegetative state for years have many physical, intellectual and psychological difficulties. If a patient was a child when they went into the coma and awakes as an adult they still believe they are a child. Their mentality hasn’t changed but their world has altered dramatically, as well as their family and friends.

I don’t think this technology is bad if the person becomes conscious within the first year but then the possibility turns into a very low percentage. I believe it is cruel if they do wake up after years of being in a vegetative state because then they have to deal with the combination of the above issues as well as the problem that put them in that state to begin with.

Comment on wrong-doings Bad Behaviour on Buses and Annoying Mobile Phone Uses
http://dantesinferno64.blogspot.com/

I’m not concerned with people who use there mobiles quietly, and don’t make an exhibition of themselves when using it. On the other hand frequency of use is an issue if people start using technology to inform you on important concerns that they can’t say face to face. The replacement of face to face communication with mobile phones is a big worry.

Loud users, now they are an irritation, I don’t think they realize how much information they are distributing when on a mobile. When I was on a train to London recently I discovered from a gentleman’s phone call that Ben was going to get the sack and I’m all sure we’ve all overheard the “he told me he was going to pull out” conversation, or is that just down to the area I live in?

Pope and Condoms

After Comic Relief showing us heart wrenching images of vulnerable children who have lost their parents to aids and the potential for these children to be HIV positive I find it horrifying that the pope who is currently visiting Africa for the first time has condemned the use of condom because he believes it will increase the spread of the disease. This flies in the face of proven scientific research and has created an impossible position for the charity workers who are trying to educate the population on safe sex.

In my view his comments are hypocritical and out of touch with reality and the lifestyle of many modern Catholics who practice contraception and are advocates of the condom.
I believe a man with such influence and power should open his mind to greater learning and open his ears to people with a greater awareness and understanding of the situation in Africa.http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2009/mar/17/pope-africa-condoms-aids

Credit Cards

I think it is criminal that banks have let us borrow millions from them. They send unsolicited credit cards offers with minimal checks on potential customers financial position. For example they started sending me unsolicited credit card offers at the age of fourteen. When I was seventeen I had a part time job that paid minimum wage yet my bank gave me a credit card. On this credit card I was allowed borrow £1,000 so it is hardly surprising people have found themselves in major debt.
Now we’re in recession and a part of it is to do with the banks raising the credit limit on credit cards and encouraged you to borrow. Major stores also encouraged instore credit cards which had very high interest rate which were often directed at young people, especially students. I don’t think they should have the power to do this specially now there is £53 billion owed on credit cards in Britain alone. So I’m pleased to see there are legislations being brought in to stop the Credit Card companies from raising the limit where not needed. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/7947424.stm

Poor Hospital Treatment

When I read this article today about Mid-Staffordshire NHS Foundation Trust I wasn’t surprised. This isn’t down to the fact that I have been to this said hospital but because I’ve seen it happening in many other hospitals. My poor Granddad died last year in hospital in a horrid dirty ward, two days later a man two beds down shot himself. I personally think it was all down to the lack of care and assistance from staff. It took numerous occasions of us asking him to be put on a catheter after finding him lying in a cold soiled bed on many occasions. We were also not informed when he had a serious fall and only found out through my granddad announcing he did a ‘rollie rollie polie’. I’m glad my granddad was suffering from dementia because for him to have experienced this with a clear mind would have been awful and sole crushing. To this day there are letters going back and forth between the hospital and my family. We still have had neither apology nor any remorse towards our feelings; the hospital is standing by its ill-equipped staff and they would rather have us ‘out of their hair’.

I remember as a child going to work with mum and walking with her on her rounds through a London hospital. Seeing clean, respectable wards which were run by well trained staff and looking after their patients who even ill looked comfortable and contented.

If Mid-Staffordshire hospital is typical of what we should expect in hospital care then I’d rather stay at home and as there is now an ‘End of Life’ strategy for dying patients being developed by all Primary Care Trust across the country this should soon be available. However this does not address routine admissions to hospital, especially for the elderly and I can see no future improvement with the current financial situation when only more cuts will be made.http://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/health-and-wellbeing/health-news/appalling-hospital-blamed-for-deaths-1646950.html

Comment on Soveliss' Cannabis

http://soveliss.blogspot.com/
I've always thought we have a lot of hypocritical laws and having cannabis as a class B drug and alcohol legal is one of them. I completely agree with Soveliss that alochol can be very distructive to everything around us and towards ourselves -and yet is legal- when on the other hand cannabis chills us out. Although the talk to frank advert likes to point out you can suffer from panic attacks, paranoia and memory loss, none of which i have personally experienced or know anyone who has. I'm assuming then that we've just been lucky. Personally i think all drugs should be legalized, then at least it will be controlled, pure and the figures on who does it would be clearer.

Technology is fantastic until it breaks or someone uses it against you. Recently I got dumped via the good old fashion text message. I also found out there are websites that give suggestions on what to text! What has happened to society that we can’t even face one another anymore? These days we’ll try anything to avoid giving bad news face to face and instead deliver it by means of text, email and facebook. It wouldn’t surprise me if one day we replace our voices with technology. I can just see it; I’ll walk into a crowded pub and the only noise I’ll hear would be people’s text tone.http://www.textsmsmessages.com/breakup-sms/

I've been reading a lot about infidelity and I do see why people would want to sleep with someone outside their relationship. They've been with their partner all their lives and want to see what it's like with someone else or you're not getting the attention you feel you deserve or you're unhappy within your relationship but I still feel there is no excuse for infidelity.
If you feel that there is a problem within your relationship, the ideal thing to do is talk not sleep with the next person you meet. What’s even worse is the problem with communicating transfers over to the person you’re having an affair with; you have problems laying down the boundaries of said affair and everything continues spiralling out of control. Now not only will it affect your partner but friends and family too.
As this article suggest, it is really bad, but the world gets captivated on stories of celebrities and friends who have committed infidelity because they’re exciting and I’m sure the world will just keep having them.http://www.guardian.co.uk/lifeandstyle/2007/jul/08/familyandrelationships3

Library Books

I recently borrowed a book from the library only to get home and find that the very 2 pages i need for my research have been torn out. Personally, I do not understand why someone would do this, specially when there's 6 copies of this book available. I can only assume this person is extremely poor that they can't even afford to buy pen and paper so that they can copy the information that is so badly needed. I have also discovered that a wealthy academic man -Farhad Hakimzadeh- has found himself jailed for 2 years for "stripping pages out of ancient books". Once he has these priceless pages he then inserts them into he's own copy of the very same book and sells it for thousands of pounds. Hakimzadeh now has to pay £7,500 even tho he made £300,000 damages. These are 2 examples of vandalism to books that i find petty and inconsiderate to those who wish to borrow the book and the library who owns it.
