Technology has always had its pro’s and con’s especially when it involves hospital equipment that keeps people alive. Personal I’m not a fan. If the technology wasn’t there to perform unnatural acts we wouldn’t have another boundary that has to be pushed and another fight between doctor and family.
People who wake up after being in a coma or vegetative state for years have many physical, intellectual and psychological difficulties. If a patient was a child when they went into the coma and awakes as an adult they still believe they are a child. Their mentality hasn’t changed but their world has altered dramatically, as well as their family and friends.
I don’t think this technology is bad if the person becomes conscious within the first year but then the possibility turns into a very low percentage. I believe it is cruel if they do wake up after years of being in a vegetative state because then they have to deal with the combination of the above issues as well as the problem that put them in that state to begin with.
