Drug companies are disinterested in a pill that could half the number of heart attacks and strokes because it is not profitable. In 2003 a medical journal stated that this pill was “a step of genius” and “possibly the most important paper the journal has published in 50 years”.
Yet even now, after research showing that the pill can reduce blood pressure and cholesterol without side effects in 12 weeks, it looks like a long time till it will be perscriped by GP’s.
I find it concerning that drug companies can be so uninterested in drugs that benefit so many people because either it is too expensive to produce or it does not make a big enough profit. I wonder how many people would still be alive today if drug finances weren’t such a problem.
